English Teacher – SEMH Setting (Full-Time, Temp to Perm)

Contract: Full-time (Monday to Friday), Temp to Perm

Are you a passionate Teacher of English with a creative flair to teach young people with a range of complex needs and backgrounds? We are seeking a passionate and resilient English Teacher to join a specialist provision in Halifax, West Yorkshire on a full-time, temp-to-perm basis.

This is a fantastic opportunity to make a meaningful difference in a supportive and nurturing school environment that caters for young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

About the School

This specialist school supports pupils aged 7–16 with a range of additional needs, including SEMH and Autism. The setting prides itself on providing a safe, nurturing, and trauma-informed environment, where students are encouraged to rebuild confidence, re-engage with education, and achieve their full potential.

The school delivers a broad and balanced curriculum, with a strong focus on developing communication, literacy, and life skills, alongside academic progress.

Staff work collaboratively to support pupils’ individual needs, with access to therapeutic approaches and a strong emphasis on positive relationships and wellbeing.

The Role

As an English Teacher, you will:

Plan and deliver engaging English lessons across KS2–KS4 (depending on experience)
Differentiate learning to meet a range of additional needs
Support students in developing literacy, communication, and confidence
Work closely with support staff and therapists to provide holistic support
Manage behaviour positively using trauma-informed approaches
Contribute to a supportive and inclusive learning environment
Requirements
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS) or equivalent
Experience teaching English (secondary or upper primary level)
Experience or strong interest in working with SEMH/SEN pupils
Strong behaviour management skills
A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach
