We are recruiting on behalf of a specialist school in Bradford that supports children and young people aged 3–19 with Autism, complex needs, and communication difficulties. The school is looking to appoint a committed and resilient Behaviour Buddy to provide consistent, person-centred support for pupils who may present with challenging behaviour and non-verbal communication needs.

This is a well-established specialist provision supporting pupils with a wide range of complex learning, sensory, and communication needs. Many students are non-verbal or have limited communication, and may display behaviours linked to frustration, anxiety, or sensory processing differences.
The school offers a structured, nurturing, and highly supportive environment, with a strong emphasis on understanding behaviour as communication.
The Role
As a Behaviour Buddy, you will work closely with individual pupils and small groups, building trusted relationships and providing consistent support throughout the school day.
You will support pupils in regulating their emotions, managing behaviours, and accessing learning in a way that suits their individual needs. This role requires patience, emotional resilience, and the ability to remain calm in high-pressure or unpredictable situations.
Key Responsibilities
Supporting pupils with Autism, complex needs, and non-verbal communication
Building strong, trusting relationships to support emotional regulation and engagement
Managing and de-escalating challenging behaviour in a calm and consistent manner
Understanding behaviour as a form of communication and responding appropriately
Providing 1:1 and small group support throughout the day
Assisting with personal care where required
Working alongside teachers, therapists, and support staff to implement strategies
Creating a safe, structured, and positive environment for all learners
What We’re Looking For
Experience supporting individuals with Autism, complex needs, or challenging behaviour
Background in support work, care, SEN, youth work, or similar fields
Confidence working with pupils who may be non-verbal or have limited communication
Ability to remain calm, patient, and consistent in challenging situations
A resilient, proactive, and nurturing approach
Willingness to work across the 3–19 age range
A genuine passion for supporting young people with additional needs
