Location:Kingston

Working Hours: 08:30 am – 16:00 pm.

We are seeking a dedicated and inspiring Functional Skills Tutor to join our inclusive and supportive school community. Key Responsibilities

● Deliver Tailored Lessons: Plan and teach functional skills in English, mathematics, and ICT, ensuring lessons are accessible, engaging, and relevant to each pupil’s needs and abilities.

● Promote Life Skills: Help students develop the practical skills necessary for everyday life, further education, and the workplace.

● Support Individual Progress: Adapt teaching methods and resources to address the diverse needs of pupils, including those with autism, learning difficulties, and SEMH challenges.

● Monitor and Assess Performance: Track and record student progress, providing regular feedback to pupils, parents, and the wider team.

● Collaborate with Staff: Work closely with teachers, therapists, and support staff to deliver cohesive, multidisciplinary support.

● Implement Behaviour Management Strategies: Use positive reinforcement and other techniques to foster engagement and self-regulation.

● Prepare Students for Accreditation: Support pupils in working towards functional skills qualifications and other appropriate accreditations.

Qualifications and Skills Required

● A relevant teaching qualification, such as PGCE, Cert Ed, or Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training (DET).

● Experience teaching functional skills in English, mathematics, and ICT, ideally within an SEN or alternative education setting.

● Knowledge of the functional skills curriculum and its application to a special needs context.

● Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.

● Empathy, patience, and resilience to support students through challenges and celebrate their successes.

● The ability to use a variety of teaching methods and resources to accommodate different learning styles.

● A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
