Learning Support Assistant – Keighley

At Engage, we know that a school runs on quality support staff. We’ve built strong relationships with schools across West Yorkshire and are now looking to expand our pool of dedicated Learning Support Assistants for a welcoming school in Keighley.

We are looking for enthusiastic, patient and compassionate Learning Support Assistants to work with students with a range of additional needs. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting young people to overcome barriers to learning, develop their confidence and achieve their potential.

The students you will be supporting may have a range of additional needs, including:

• Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
• Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD)
• ADHD
• Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD)
• Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
• Communication and interaction difficulties
• Behavioural needs
• Sensory processing needs

Experience working with students with additional needs is highly desirable. Experience with sensory-based learning, communication strategies or supporting students with challenging behaviour would also be advantageous.

About the role:

• Full-time Learning Support Assistant position
• Supporting students across the school day, both inside and outside the classroom
• Providing targeted 1:1 and small-group support
• Helping students access the curriculum and overcome barriers to learning
• Supporting students with additional and complex learning needs
• Developing positive relationships with students and encouraging their confidence and independence
• Supporting emotional regulation and positive behaviour
• Assisting with interventions and personalised learning activities
• Working closely with teachers and other support staff to provide consistent, individualised support
• Helping to create a safe, inclusive and positive learning environment

• Resilient and calm, particularly when supporting students who may display challenging or dysregulated behaviour
• Adaptable and flexible, able to respond to individual students and changing situations
• Positive and encouraging, helping students build confidence, self-esteem and independence
• Excellent at building relationships, with the ability to establish trust and rapport with students
• A strong communicator, able to work effectively with teachers, support staff, students and families
• Observant and proactive, recognising when a student may need additional support
• Consistent and reliable, providing clear boundaries and following individual support strategies
• Team-oriented, willing to work collaboratively with colleagues and external professionals
• Committed to inclusion, with a genuine belief that every student should have the opportunity to succeed

Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, SEN Teaching Assistant, youth worker, support worker or in a similar role would be beneficial. However, we would also welcome applications from candidates with transferable experience and a genuine passion for working with young people with additional needs.
