Are you passionate about supporting children and young people with Autism, complex needs and communication difficulties?
We are recruiting SEND Teaching Assistants to join the bank of support staff working within a specialist school in Bradford (BD9).
We are particularly interested in candidates who can work full-time, Monday to Friday and who would be open to progressing into a long-term or permanent position with the school.
This is an excellent opportunity for experienced Teaching Assistants as well as people from care, support work, healthcare, residential care, childcare, youth work or similar backgrounds who want to develop a career within SEND education.
The School
The specialist school supports children and young people aged 3–19 years with a range of additional needs, including:
- Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
- Complex Communication & Interaction needs
- Non-verbal and minimally verbal pupils
- Sensory processing needs
- Learning difficulties
- Social, emotional and behavioural needs
- Physical and personal care needs
Pupils are supported across Primary, Secondary and Post-16, so flexibility to work with different ages and classes is highly valued.
The Role
As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will work alongside experienced teachers and support staff to help pupils access education, develop communication skills and build greater independence.
Your responsibilities may include:
- Providing 1:1 and small-group support
- Supporting pupils with Autism and complex learning needs
- Using visual, sensory and communication strategies
- Supporting emotional regulation and positive behaviour
- Helping pupils develop independence and life skills
- Supporting with personal care where required
- Following individual support plans and safeguarding procedures
- Building positive, consistent relationships with pupils
- Working collaboratively with teachers and the wider SEND team

Previous experience within a special school is beneficial but not essential. Relevant experience from care, support work, healthcare, residential settings, childcare, mental health or youth work will also be considered.
