Full-time | Monday to Friday | Term Time Only
Long-term Temporary Opportunity

About the Role

Engage Education are currently working in partnership with a primary school in East Leeds who are looking for a dedicated, patient and resilient Behaviour Buddy to join their team.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting children with behavioural, emotional and social needs, helping them to overcome barriers to learning and make positive progress throughout their school journey.

You will work closely with pupils who may struggle with emotional regulation, engagement, social interaction or managing their behaviour in a mainstream primary school environment.

The successful candidate will provide consistent, tailored support to help pupils develop positive coping strategies, build confidence and access their education in a safe and supportive environment.

Your Responsibilities

As a Behaviour Buddy, you will:

  • Provide individualised support to pupils who require additional behavioural and emotional support.
  • Help children manage their emotions and develop effective self-regulation strategies.
  • Support pupils who may display challenging behaviours, using appropriate behaviour management and de-escalation techniques.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils and act as a consistent source of support throughout the school day.
  • Encourage positive behaviour, engagement and participation in classroom activities.
  • Help pupils develop their social skills, confidence and independence.
  • Support children during transitions, break times and other potentially challenging parts of the school day.
  • Work closely with class teachers, the SENCO and other support staff to implement individual behaviour plans.
  • Adapt your approach to meet each child’s individual needs and circumstances.
  • Help create a calm, inclusive environment where pupils feel safe, understood and ready to learn.
  • Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to teachers regarding behaviour, engagement and emotional wellbeing.

What We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have previous experience working with children or young people with behavioural, emotional or social needs.
  • Be confident supporting pupils who may display challenging behaviours.
  • Have an understanding of behaviour management, emotional regulation and de-escalation strategies.
  • Be patient, calm, resilient and consistent in their approach.
  • Be able to build positive relationships while maintaining clear and appropriate boundaries.
  • Have a nurturing approach and understand the importance of looking beyond a child’s behaviour to identify underlying needs.
  • Be confident working on a one-to-one basis and as part of a wider school team.
  • Be adaptable and able to respond calmly to changing situations.
  • Be passionate about helping children develop positive behaviours and achieve their potential.
  • Be reliable and committed to a long-term position.

Experience within a primary school, SEN setting, SEMH provision, youth work or a similar behaviour support role would be highly beneficial.
