Psychology Graduate – Learning Support Assistant

We are currently recruiting for a Psychology Graduate Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join a specialist SEND school in Bradford. This is an excellent opportunity to put your psychology knowledge into practice while developing practical experience in a supportive educational environment.
The Role
As a Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with teaching staff to support pupils with a range of complex needs, including Autism, Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) and other additional needs.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils
- Supporting pupils with their learning, development and communication
- Assisting with sensory activities and learning experiences
- Supporting pupils’ social, emotional and behavioural development
- Helping teachers prepare learning resources and classroom activities
- Building positive and trusting relationships with pupils
- Providing feedback to teaching staff regarding pupil progress and engagement
- Supporting pupils to develop independence and confidence
- Following individual support plans and strategies
- Working as part of a dedicated and supportive SEND team
What We’re Looking For
This role would suit a Psychology Graduate who is passionate about supporting children and young people and is looking to gain hands-on experience within a specialist education setting.
You will ideally have:
- A degree in Psychology or a related subject
- A genuine interest in SEND, Autism and child development
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- A patient, empathetic and nurturing approach
- The ability to build strong relationships with children and young people
- A calm and resilient approach when faced with challenging situations
- The flexibility to adapt your approach to meet individual needs
- A willingness to learn and develop your understanding of SEND
Previous experience working with children or young people is desirable but not essential. We are particularly interested in hearing from Psychology Graduates looking to gain experience before progressing into careers such as Educational Psychology, Teaching, Therapy or other specialist support roles.
