At Engage Education, we’ve spent over a decade making sure our supply teachers are happy, supported, and offered satisfying and reliable work. We have built an excellent reputation in education recruitment and developed strong links with schools across Leeds and the surrounding areas.

We are looking for fantastic General Supply Teachers to join our team and increase the availability we can offer to our local schools.

About the role

As a General Supply Teacher, you’ll have the opportunity to work across a variety of schools in Leeds and the surrounding areas, providing valuable cover for planned and unplanned teacher absences.

The role offers flexibility and variety, with no two days necessarily being the same. You may be asked to teach across different year groups and subjects, depending on your experience and the needs of the school.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering engaging and effective lessons using lesson plans and resources provided by the school
  • Teaching pupils across different year groups and abilities
  • Maintaining a positive, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment
  • Managing behaviour effectively and confidently
  • Following school policies, procedures, and safeguarding requirements
  • Supporting pupils with their learning and ensuring they remain focused and engaged
  • Registering pupils and providing appropriate feedback to the school where required
  • Adapting quickly to different school environments, routines, and expectations
  • Ensuring continuity of learning during staff absences

We can offer day-to-day supply work, often at short notice, as well as longer-term opportunities for teachers looking for greater consistency. For the right teachers, we can also offer Secure Guaranteed Pay contracts, ensuring you get paid even when we are unable to secure work for you.

What skills do I need?

We’re looking for teachers who are confident, adaptable, and passionate about supporting pupils. As a General Supply Teacher, you’ll need to be able to quickly establish positive relationships with pupils and staff while adapting to different schools and classroom environments.

Essential requirements and skills include:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Strong classroom and behaviour management skills
  • The ability to deliver engaging lessons and maintain high expectations
  • Flexibility and adaptability when working across different schools and year groups
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Confidence working independently and taking responsibility for a class
  • Enthusiasm, motivation, and a genuine commitment to pupils’ learning
  • The ability to quickly follow lesson plans and school procedures
  • A professional and reliable approach
  • The ability to adhere to and implement schools’ policies and safeguarding procedures

Previous supply teaching experience is beneficial, but we welcome applications from teachers who are new to supply and are looking for a flexible way to work.
