SEN Teaching Assistant – Hastings

Full-Time | September 2026 Start

Engage Education is working with a supportive and inclusive school in Hastings to recruit a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant for a full-time position starting in September 2026.

This is a rewarding opportunity for a caring and enthusiastic individual who is passionate about supporting pupils with additional needs. The successful candidate will work closely with teachers and specialist staff to provide tailored support, helping students overcome barriers to learning and develop confidence within the classroom.

About the role:

  • Providing 1:1 and small group support for pupils with special educational needs
  • Supporting pupils with a range of needs, including autism, communication difficulties, and learning needs
  • Helping students access lessons and engage with classroom activities
  • Supporting individual learning plans and targeted interventions
  • Encouraging independence, confidence, and positive learning behaviours
  • Assisting with emotional regulation and behaviour support strategies
  • Working alongside teachers, SEN staff, and external professionals where required
  • Creating a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment
  • Supporting pupils’ social, emotional, and academic development

About you:

  • Experience working with children or young people is desirable
  • Previous SEN, education, childcare, care, or support work experience is beneficial
  • Patient, empathetic, and resilient approach
  • Understanding of supporting pupils with additional needs
  • Ability to build positive and trusting relationships with pupils
  • Confident working as part of a wider support team
  • Adaptable and able to respond to individual pupil needs
  • Committed to safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of children
