We are recruiting a Trainee SEND Teaching Assistant to join the welcoming team at primary school in HD7 for a September 2026 start.

This is a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a supportive primary school while completing a fully funded Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship.

You’ll support children across EYFS, KS1, and KS2 with a range of additional needs including Autism (ASD), ADHD, speech and language needs, SEMH, and learning difficulties — helping them thrive both academically and emotionally.

No previous school experience is required — just a positive attitude, patience, and a genuine passion for supporting young people.

Your role as a Trainee SEND Teaching Assistant

You’ll work alongside experienced teachers and SEND staff to provide classroom and emotional support for pupils with additional needs.

Key responsibilities:

  • Supporting pupils 1:1 and in small intervention groups
  • Assisting children with SEND including ASD, ADHD, SEMH, and communication needs
  • Encouraging positive behaviour and emotional regulation
  • Supporting literacy, numeracy, phonics, and classroom activities
  • Helping pupils build confidence, independence, and social skills
  • Supporting EHCP targets and personalised learning plans
  • Assisting teachers with lesson preparation and classroom resources
  • Creating a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment

Requirements

  • Commitment to completing the 11-month apprenticeship programme
