About the Role

We are recruiting on behalf of a specialist alternative provision in Bradford seeking a resilient and committed Youth Worker / Young Offenders Support Assistant.

This role involves supporting young people aged 11–16 with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, including those at risk of exclusion or involvement in youth offending.

You will help re-engage learners with education, build positive relationships, and support their personal development in a structured, trauma-informed environment.

Key Responsibilities

Support students in both classroom and alternative learning environments
Build positive, trusting relationships with disengaged learners
Manage behaviour using consistent and trauma-informed approaches
Support EHCP targets and individual development plans
Assist with emotional regulation, social skills, and life skills
Record and monitor progress, behaviour, and engagement
Work collaboratively with teaching staff, SEND teams, and external agencies
Promote positive engagement, confidence, and achievement

About the Students
Aged 11–16
Present with SEMH needs
May display challenging behaviour linked to trauma or adverse experiences
Require consistency, structure, and strong role models

What We’re Looking For

Essential:

Experience working with young people (education, youth work, care, or similar)
Confidence managing challenging behaviour
Strong communication and relationship-building skills
Ability to remain calm and de-escalate situations effectively
Team player with a proactive, flexible approach

Desirable:

Experience in alternative provision, PRUs, or youth offending services
Knowledge of CSE (Child Sexual Exploitation) and CCE (Child Criminal Exploitation)
Experience supporting students with EHCPs or SEND needs
Relevant qualifications (Youth Work, Psychology, Criminology, etc.)
First Aid training
