Engage Education is recruiting a Student Engagement Mentor to join a challenging but rewarding secondary school in Haringey from September 2026. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong behaviour management skills who can build positive relationships with students and encourage them to re-engage with education.

The school is looking for someone who can remain calm under pressure, establish clear boundaries, and act as a positive role model for students who require additional behavioural and pastoral support.

The Role

As a Student Engagement Mentor, you will:

  • Work closely with students who are at risk of disengaging from education.
  • Provide 1:1 mentoring and targeted small group support to improve behaviour, attendance, and engagement.
  • Support students both in lessons and around the school to help them make positive choices.
  • Work alongside teachers, pastoral leaders, the SEND team, and safeguarding staff to implement personalised support plans.
  • Use restorative and positive behaviour strategies to manage challenging situations.
  • Encourage students to develop resilience, confidence, emotional regulation, and independence.
  • Monitor student progress and maintain accurate records of interventions and outcomes.
  • Act as a consistent and positive role model throughout the school day.

We’re Looking For

  • Experience working with young people in secondary schools, alternative provisions, youth work, mentoring, residential care, sports coaching, or similar environments.
  • Excellent behaviour management and de-escalation skills.
  • A resilient, patient, and empathetic approach.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Confidence working in a fast-paced school where every day is different.
  • A genuine passion for helping young people achieve positive outcomes.
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).

Why Join Engage Education?

  • September 2026 start.
  • Long-term opportunity with the potential to become permanent.
  • Competitive weekly pay.
  • Access to free CPD, safeguarding, and behaviour management training.
  • Support from an experienced Engage Education consultant.
  • Excellent progression opportunities into teaching, pastoral leadership, safeguarding, behaviour support, or SEND roles.

This role is perfect for someone who enjoys working in a dynamic environment and believes that every young person deserves the opportunity to succeed with the right guidance, consistency, and support.
