SEND Teaching Assistant (Secondary School) – Stretford area 

Full Time | Term Time Only | Start Date: September 2026

We are looking to appoint an experienced, caring, and dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to join our supportive secondary school from September 2026. This is an exciting opportunity to work with students who have a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), helping them to overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential.

The successful candidate will be passionate about inclusion, committed to supporting young people both academically and emotionally, and able to build positive, trusting relationships with students, staff, and families.

About the Role

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the SENDCo, teachers, pastoral staff, and external professionals to provide high-quality support for students with a variety of additional needs, including:

  • Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
  • Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)
  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
  • Moderate learning difficulties and other additional learning needs

You will provide both in-class support and targeted interventions, adapting your approach to meet individual needs while promoting independence, confidence, and resilience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support students with SEND in lessons and around the school environment.
  • Deliver personalised learning and intervention programmes under the guidance of teaching staff and the SENDCo.
  • Help implement Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and other individual support plans.
  • Promote positive behaviour through consistent, nurturing, and restorative approaches.
  • Assist students with emotional regulation and social interaction where required.
  • Encourage independence while providing appropriate levels of support.
  • Monitor and record student progress, providing feedback to teachers and the SENDCo.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, parents, carers, and external agencies to ensure students receive the best possible support.
  • Contribute to creating an inclusive environment where every student feels safe, valued, and able to succeed.

We Are Looking For Someone Who Has

  • Experience working with young people with SEND, ideally within a secondary school setting.
  • A good understanding of autism, ADHD, SEMH, and other additional learning needs.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • A calm, patient, and resilient approach to supporting young people.
  • The ability to remain positive and adaptable in a busy school environment.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics (Grade 4/C or above).
  • Relevant SEND or Teaching Assistant qualifications are desirable but not essential.
