KS3 Teacher – Specialist SEMH Setting (Maternity Cover)

Location: Halifax
Contract: Full-Time | Term-Time Only | Maternity Cover
Start Date: ASAP or September 2026
Pay: Up to £220 per day (dependent on experience)

Make a Difference Where It Matters Most

We are recruiting on behalf of a highly regarded independent specialist school in Halifax that provides a therapeutic, child-centred education for children and young people aged 6–17 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Many pupils also have additional needs including Autism, ADHD and communication and interaction difficulties, with all students supported through Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).

This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate KS3 Teacher to join the team on a full-time maternity cover, starting as soon as possible or from September for the right candidate.

About the School

This specialist setting is built around the belief that every young person deserves the opportunity to succeed, regardless of the barriers they have faced. The school offers:

  • Small class sizes allowing for highly personalised teaching
  • A therapeutic, trauma-informed approach to education
  • Modern learning environments with dedicated therapy facilities and outdoor learning spaces
  • A broad curriculum based on the National Curriculum, adapted to meet individual needs
  • Strong pastoral support and a collaborative multi-disciplinary team
  • A focus on developing resilience, emotional regulation, independence and positive life outcomes alongside academic achievement

The Role

As a KS3 Teacher, you will:

  • Deliver engaging and differentiated lessons across Key Stage 3.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils who may have experienced disrupted education or trauma.
  • Create a calm, structured classroom where every child feels safe to learn.
  • Adapt teaching to meet a wide range of learning styles, abilities and EHCP outcomes.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, therapists and pastoral teams.
  • Promote emotional wellbeing, resilience and positive behaviour alongside academic progress.

We Are Looking For Someone Who:

  • Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
  • Has experience teaching KS3 pupils.
  • Has experience supporting children with SEMH, SEND or within alternative provision (desirable but not essential).
  • Understands trauma-informed practice and relationship-based behaviour management.
  • Is patient, resilient and passionate about changing young people’s lives.
  • Can build strong professional relationships with pupils, families and colleagues.

In Return

  • Up to £220 per day
  • Full-time, term-time only position
  • Supportive leadership team and welcoming staff
  • Opportunity to work within an outstanding therapeutic learning environment
  • Ongoing support from a dedicated education recruitment consultant
  • The chance to genuinely transform the lives of young people every day

If you’re looking for a role where you can have a lasting impact on the lives of children who need it most, we’d love to hear from you.
