About the role

As an Outreach Tutor, you will provide high-quality 1:1 education and support to learners who may have additional needs or have found it difficult to access traditional education.

You’ll use your teaching experience, creativity and understanding of individual needs to build positive relationships and deliver learning that is engaging, accessible and purposeful.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver 1:1 education: Plan and deliver personalised learning sessions based on each learner’s needs, abilities, interests and educational goals
• Teach in the community or at home: Provide education in appropriate home or community settings, creating a safe and positive environment for learning
• Build strong relationships: Develop trusting, professional relationships with learners and their families to encourage engagement and confidence
• Support holistic development: Promote academic, social and emotional development alongside educational progress
• Adapt your teaching: Tailor approaches, resources and activities to meet individual learning needs
• Support learners with SEN: Use appropriate strategies and interventions to support a range of needs, which may include autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, SEMH and other additional needs
• Manage behaviour positively: Use calm, consistent and positive approaches to encourage engagement, self-regulation and appropriate behaviour
• Monitor progress: Maintain accurate records of learning, engagement and progress, providing regular feedback where required
• Work collaboratively: Liaise with parents, schools, therapists and other professionals to ensure a consistent approach to the learner’s education and support
• Safeguard learners: Follow all safeguarding procedures and promote the welfare and safety of every child and young person

What we’re looking for

We’re particularly interested in hearing from experienced Outreach Tutors, Teachers, SEN Tutors and Education Professionals who have experience delivering 1:1 education to children or young people in their homes or community settings.

Essential

• Proven experience teaching or tutoring children or young people 1:1
• Experience delivering education in a pupil’s home, community setting or other non-school environment
• Experience working with learners with SEN and/or additional needs
• A patient, adaptable and engaging approach to teaching
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• The ability to build positive professional relationships with learners and their families
• A strong understanding of safeguarding and a commitment to promoting the welfare of children
• A proactive and reliable approach to working independently

Desirable

• QTS or another recognised teaching qualification
• Experience working as an Outreach Teacher, SEN Teacher, Tutor or within alternative provision
• Experience supporting learners who are disengaged from, or unable to access, mainstream education
• Knowledge of strategies and interventions for autism, ADHD, SEMH, speech and language difficulties or other SEN
• Experience planning personalised learning programmes and tracking pupil progress

QTS is desirable but not essential. What matters most is your ability to deliver high-quality, engaging 1:1 education and build positive relationships with learners.
