We are recruiting a Complex Needs Support Worker to join a welcoming specialist school in Wakefield (WF7), supporting pupils aged 2–19 with Autism, Communication & Interaction needs, and complex learning difficulties.

About the Role

As a Complex Needs Support Worker, you’ll work alongside experienced teachers, therapists and support staff to help pupils access learning and develop essential life skills.

Every day is different, and you’ll play a key role in supporting students both inside and outside the classroom.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting pupils with Autism and complex additional needs
  • Encouraging communication, independence and social development
  • Managing behaviours that may be challenging using positive behaviour strategies
  • Supporting pupils with sensory and emotional regulation
  • Assisting with personal care when required
  • Building positive relationships with pupils, families and staff
  • Helping create a safe, engaging and inclusive learning environment
  • Adapting your approach to meet each child’s individual needs

About You

We’re looking for someone who is compassionate, reliable and ready to make a genuine difference.

You’ll ideally have experience in one or more of the following:

  • Support Worker
  • Care Assistant
  • SEN Teaching Assistant
  • Residential Support Worker
  • Youth Worker
  • Mental Health Support
  • Autism Support
  • Learning Disabilities Support
  • Healthcare Assistant

You’ll also have:

  • Experience supporting individuals with Autism, learning disabilities or complex needs
  • A calm and positive approach to managing challenging behaviour
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Patience, resilience and empathy
  • A genuine passion for supporting children and young people
  • Flexibility to work across different age groups within the school
