Engage Education is recruiting an Academic Mentor to join a high-achieving secondary school in Ashford, Surrey from September 2026. This is an excellent opportunity for graduates considering a career in teaching who are passionate about helping students fulfil their academic potential.

Working with students across Key Stages 3 and 4, you will provide targeted intervention and classroom support, helping pupils build confidence, close learning gaps, and prepare for examinations.

The Role

As an Academic Mentor, you will:

  • Deliver 1:1 and small group intervention sessions in your specialist subject or across the curriculum.
  • Support students who require additional academic guidance to improve progress and attainment.
  • Work alongside classroom teachers to reinforce learning and adapt resources where appropriate.
  • Help prepare students for GCSE examinations and assessments.
  • Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teaching staff.
  • Encourage confidence, resilience, and independent learning.
  • Promote high expectations for attendance, behaviour, and achievement.

We’re Looking For

  • A degree in any subject (core subjects such as English, Maths, Science, Humanities, or Modern Foreign Languages are particularly desirable).
  • A genuine interest in education and supporting young people.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Confidence working with secondary-aged students.
  • Strong organisational skills and a proactive approach.
  • Previous experience tutoring, mentoring, coaching, volunteering, or working with young people is desirable but not essential.
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
