Academic Mentor

A forward-thinking and inclusive secondary school in Haringey is seeking dedicated and enthusiastic Academic Mentors to join their team from September 2026.

This is an excellent opportunity for graduates, aspiring teachers, or experienced support staff who are passionate about supporting young people in achieving strong GCSE outcomes and developing confidence in their learning.

The successful candidates will work closely with students across Key Stages 3 and 4, providing targeted academic support, intervention sessions, and classroom assistance to help pupils reach their full potential.

Key Responsibilities

• Supporting students preparing for GCSE examinations
• Delivering targeted interventions in core subjects including English, Maths, and Science
• Working with small groups and on a 1:1 basis to close learning gaps
• Encouraging student engagement, confidence, and independent learning
• Supporting classroom teachers during lessons where required
• Monitoring student progress and providing feedback to teaching staff
• Assisting with revision strategies, study skills, and exam preparation
• Promoting positive behaviour and maintaining high expectations

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

• A degree or strong academic background
• A passion for education and supporting young people
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• The ability to build positive relationships with students and staff
• A proactive, patient, and resilient attitude
• Previous experience working with young people is desirable but not essential
