Engage Education is working with a welcoming primary school in Mitcham seeking an experienced and committed SENDCo to join its leadership team from January 2027.

This is an important whole-school role, supporting pupils across Early Years, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. The successful candidate will lead and develop inclusive SEND provision, working closely with staff, families and external professionals to ensure every pupil receives the support they need to thrive.

The role

• Lead and oversee the school’s SEND provision and SEND policy
• Identify pupils’ additional needs and monitor their progress
• Work closely with teachers, support staff, parents and external agencies
• Develop, implement and review effective individual support plans
• Advise teachers and teaching assistants on inclusive classroom practice and interventions
• Lead SEND-focused staff training and professional development
• Manage SEND resources, provision mapping and relevant funding applications
• Maintain accurate pupil records and ensure statutory SEND processes are followed
• Analyse pupil-progress data and put appropriate strategies in place
• Support the leadership team in developing an inclusive culture across the school

Requirements

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
• Previous experience working as a SENDCo, or substantial SEND leadership experience within a primary setting
• A recognised SENDCo qualification/NPQ for SENCO is desirable
• Strong knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and effective primary-school interventions
• Excellent communication skills and the confidence to work with staff, families and external professionals
• A practical, child-centred approach and a commitment to inclusive education
