We are recruiting an Autism Support Worker to join a welcoming specialist school in Leeds (LS9), supporting pupils aged 2–19 with Autism, Communication & Interaction needs, and complex learning difficulties.

About the Role

As an Autism Support Worker, you’ll work alongside experienced teachers, therapists and support staff to help pupils access learning, build confidence and develop essential life skills.

Every day is different, and you’ll play a key role in supporting students both inside and outside the classroom.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting pupils with Autism and complex additional needs
  • Encouraging communication, independence and social development
  • Managing behaviours that may be challenging using positive behaviour strategies
  • Supporting pupils with sensory processing and emotional regulation
  • Assisting with personal care when required
  • Building positive relationships with pupils, families and colleagues
  • Helping create a safe, engaging and inclusive learning environment
  • Adapting your approach to meet each child’s individual needs

About You

We’re looking for someone who is compassionate, reliable and ready to make a genuine difference.

You’ll ideally have experience in one or more of the following:

  • Autism Support Worker
  • Support Worker
  • Care Assistant
  • SEN Teaching Assistant
  • Residential Support Worker
  • Youth Worker
  • Mental Health Support Worker
  • Learning Disabilities Support
  • Healthcare Assistant

You’ll also have:

  • Experience supporting individuals with Autism, learning disabilities or complex needs
  • A calm, patient and positive approach to managing challenging behaviour
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Resilience, empathy and a proactive attitude
  • A genuine passion for supporting children and young people
  • Flexibility to support pupils across different age groups within the school
