Psychology Graduate – Pastoral Teaching Assistant | Primary School | Tameside
Are you a Psychology graduate looking to gain meaningful experience supporting children’s emotional wellbeing, behaviour and personal development before moving into Educational Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Counselling or Teaching?
Engage Education is working with a caring and inclusive primary school in Tameside that is looking to appoint a Psychology Graduate to join its pastoral team from September. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting children beyond the classroom and helping them overcome barriers to learning.
About the role
This is a varied pastoral role where you’ll work closely with the school’s pastoral lead, SEND team and class teachers to support pupils who need additional emotional, behavioural or social support.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing one-to-one pastoral support for pupils experiencing emotional or behavioural challenges
- Building positive relationships with children to improve confidence, resilience and self-esteem
- Supporting pupils with emotional regulation, social skills and wellbeing
- Helping children successfully access learning by reducing barriers both inside and outside the classroom
- Delivering mentoring sessions and targeted interventions
- Working alongside teachers, parents and external professionals to support individual pupils
- Promoting positive behaviour and encouraging children to make positive choices
- Supporting pupils during breaktimes, transitions and throughout the school day where needed
No two days are the same, making this an excellent opportunity to develop a broad range of skills while making a genuine difference to children’s lives.
The ideal candidate
We’re looking for someone who:
- Holds a degree in Psychology (or a closely related subject)
- Has a genuine interest in child development, mental health and emotional wellbeing
- Is calm, patient and resilient
- Can build strong, trusting relationships with children
- Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Previous experience working with children, young people or vulnerable individuals is desirable but not essential
