Are you an experienced safeguarding professional looking for a senior leadership opportunity within a specialist educational setting?

Engage Education is recruiting a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) for a specialist secondary school in Bromley supporting students aged 11–16 with a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including Autism (ASC), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN), and Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD).

This is a pivotal senior role, responsible for leading all aspects of safeguarding and child protection across the school, ensuring the highest standards of care and compliance are maintained.

The Role

As the Designated Safeguarding Lead, you will:

  • Lead and manage all safeguarding and child protection matters across the school.
  • Act as the main point of contact for safeguarding concerns, referrals, and external agencies.
  • Work closely with Social Care, the Local Authority, Early Help services, CAMHS, and other multi-agency professionals.
  • Ensure safeguarding policies and procedures are implemented and remain compliant with statutory guidance.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential safeguarding records using electronic case management systems.
  • Deliver safeguarding training, guidance, and advice to staff across the school.
  • Attend Child Protection Conferences, Strategy Meetings, Core Groups, and other multi-agency meetings.
  • Support vulnerable pupils and their families, ensuring appropriate interventions are put in place.
  • Provide strategic leadership to promote a strong safeguarding culture throughout the school.

Essential Requirements

  • Previous experience as a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) or Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL) within a school or educational setting.
  • Thorough knowledge of Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE), Working Together to Safeguard Children, and statutory safeguarding responsibilities.
  • Experience working with children and young people with SEND is highly desirable.
  • Excellent understanding of child protection processes, multi-agency working, and safeguarding legislation.
  • Strong leadership, organisational, and decision-making skills.
  • The ability to manage complex safeguarding cases with professionalism, sensitivity, and discretion.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
