We are recruiting on behalf of a Special school in Boston Spa, a welcoming and inclusive school committed to supporting young people with a range of additional learning needs. The school is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Complex Needs Support Worker who can combine resilience, patience, and adaptability to help students achieve their full potential both academically and personally.

You will work alongside an experienced pastoral and SEND team, supporting students with a variety of complex needs, including Autism, communication and interaction difficulties, social, emotional and mental health needs, and moderate learning difficulties. The school prides itself on fostering a positive, respectful, and nurturing environment where every student is encouraged to thrive.

The Role

As a Complex Needs Support Worker, you will work closely with teachers, SEND staff, and pastoral colleagues to provide tailored support for students throughout the school day. You will play a key role in helping pupils access learning, develop confidence and independence, and successfully manage their individual needs within the classroom and around the wider school.

This role requires a flexible and proactive approach, with the ability to adapt support strategies to meet the varying needs of individual students.

Key Responsibilities

• Supporting students with Autism and a range of additional learning needs
• Providing classroom support to enable students to access the curriculum
• Assisting pupils with communication, emotional regulation, and social development
• Supporting students who may display behaviours that challenge in a calm and consistent manner
• Working collaboratively with teachers, the SEND department, and pastoral teams
• Implementing individual support plans and adapting strategies where required
• Promoting independence, confidence, and positive engagement with learning
• Building positive relationships that support students’ wellbeing and personal development

What We’re Looking For

• Lived experience supporting individuals with Autism or additional learning needs
• Previous experience in education, support work, care, youth work, SEN, or a related field
• Confidence managing challenging behaviour using positive behaviour support strategies
• A patient, empathetic, and nurturing approach
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
• Reliability, resilience, and a genuine passion for supporting young people
