IT / Computer Science Teacher

Location: Halifax
Contract: Full-Time | Long-Term | Temp to Permanent
Start Date: September 2026
Salary: Up to £45,350 (dependent on experience)

Are you an enthusiastic IT or Computer Science Teacher looking to make a genuine difference to the lives of young people?

We are recruiting on behalf of a specialist independent school in the Halifax area that supports children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This is an exciting opportunity to join a highly supportive and therapeutic setting where relationships come first, class sizes are small, and every learner is given the opportunity to succeed.

This is far more than a traditional teaching role. You’ll have the opportunity to engage students who may have experienced disrupted education, helping them rediscover a love of learning through a creative, practical and personalised approach to Computing.

The Role

You will be responsible for delivering engaging IT and Computer Science lessons to secondary-aged pupils, adapting learning to meet a wide range of individual needs and abilities. You’ll work closely with a multidisciplinary team to remove barriers to learning, build confidence and help pupils develop valuable digital skills for life beyond school.

About the School

This specialist provision offers a therapeutic and nurturing educational environment for pupils with SEMH needs, many of whom have experienced trauma or significant barriers to mainstream education. The school is committed to developing the whole child, placing equal importance on academic progress, emotional wellbeing and personal development. Staff benefit from:

  • Small class sizes and excellent staff-to-pupil ratios
  • A therapeutic, trauma-informed approach to education
  • Modern classrooms and excellent ICT facilities
  • Dedicated therapy and wellbeing spaces
  • A collaborative, supportive leadership team
  • Opportunities for ongoing CPD and career progression
  • A personalised curriculum designed around individual learners rather than a “one-size-fits-all” approach

We are looking for someone who:

  • Holds QTS (or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification)
  • Can teach IT and/or Computer Science to secondary-aged pupils
  • Has excellent classroom and behaviour management skills
  • Understands, or is keen to learn about, trauma-informed and therapeutic practice
  • Can build positive, trusting relationships with pupils who may have become disengaged from education
  • Is creative, resilient and passionate about making education accessible for every learner
  • Has experience working within SEND, SEMH, Alternative Provision or specialist education (desirable but not essential)

In return you will receive:

  • Competitive salary paid to experience
  • Long-term role with the opportunity to secure a permanent position
  • Ongoing support from a specialist SEND recruitment consultant
  • Access to high-quality CPD and training
  • The opportunity to work within an Outstanding specialist setting that places children at the heart of every decision it makes and is committed to helping pupils overcome barriers to learning and achieve positive futures.

If you’re an IT or Computer Science Teacher looking for a rewarding role where you can genuinely change lives, we’d love to hear from you. Apply today or get in touch for a confidential discussion about the opportunity.
