Are you a compassionate, patient, and enthusiastic individual with a passion for supporting young people with Autism? Do you want to make a genuine difference to the lives of secondary-aged students by helping them thrive both academically and personally? If so, we’d love to hear from you.
The Role
As an Autism Learning Support Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting students with Autism and additional learning needs within a welcoming and inclusive secondary school environment. Working alongside teachers, SEND staff, and pastoral teams, you will help students access the curriculum, build confidence, develop independence, and achieve their full potential.
Your Responsibilities
Providing tailored support: Work closely with teachers and the SEND team to deliver personalised support strategies that meet the individual needs of students with Autism and other additional needs.
Supporting learning: Assist students in lessons across a range of subjects, adapting resources and providing encouragement to help them engage with learning and achieve their goals.
Promoting independence: Encourage students to develop organisational skills, resilience, self-confidence, and independence both in the classroom and around the school.
Supporting communication and social development: Use positive communication strategies and, where appropriate, visual supports to help students understand expectations, express themselves, and build positive relationships with peers and staff.
Encouraging positive behaviour: Promote positive behaviour through consistency, patience, and a nurturing approach, helping students to regulate their emotions and participate successfully in school life.
Building positive relationships: Develop strong, trusting relationships with students, families, teachers, and external professionals to ensure students receive consistent and effective support.
Monitoring progress: Observe, record, and share information on students’ academic, social, and emotional progress, contributing to reviews and support planning where appropriate.
