Sports Tutor – Alternative Provision (Secondary)
📍 Wakefield | 📅 September Start | ⏰ Full-Time | 💷 Competitive Daily Rate

Are you passionate about using sport to inspire, motivate and transform the lives of young people?

We are recruiting on behalf of a specialist Alternative Provision in Wakefield for a full-time Sports Tutor to join their team from September. This is a fantastic opportunity to support secondary-aged students who have experienced barriers to mainstream education and require a patient, consistent and trauma-informed approach.

The provision supports young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, additional learning needs and disrupted educational experiences. The school prides itself on creating a safe, nurturing environment where positive relationships, resilience and personal growth are at the heart of everything they do. Small class sizes and personalised support enable students to re-engage with education and achieve success both academically and personally.

The Role

As a Sports Tutor, you’ll use physical activity and sport as a tool to build confidence, improve wellbeing and encourage engagement in learning. You’ll deliver practical sports sessions whilst acting as a positive role model, helping students develop teamwork, resilience, emotional regulation and self-belief.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging sports and physical education sessions to secondary-aged students.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with young people who may display behaviours that challenge.
  • Encourage participation, teamwork and healthy lifestyles.
  • Support students with emotional regulation and positive behaviour.
  • Work closely with teaching and pastoral staff to help students achieve their individual targets.
  • Maintain high standards of safeguarding and wellbeing at all times.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Experience working with young people in education, coaching, youth work or alternative provision.
  • Confident supporting students with SEMH, SEND or challenging behaviour.
  • Passionate about sport and its ability to positively impact young people’s lives.
  • Calm, resilient and able to build strong professional relationships.
  • Committed to safeguarding and inclusive practice.

This is an incredibly rewarding opportunity to make a genuine difference to young people’s futures within a supportive and highly respected specialist setting where every day is a fresh opportunity for success.
