About the Role
As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers, the SENCO and external professionals to provide tailored support for pupils with a range of additional needs, including:
- Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
- ADHD
- Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)
- Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
- Moderate learning difficulties
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing one-to-one and small group support throughout the school day.
- Supporting pupils to access the curriculum through differentiated learning activities.
- Encouraging communication, independence and confidence.
- Implementing strategies outlined in Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
- Supporting positive behaviour using consistent and nurturing approaches.
- Recording pupil progress and working collaboratively with teaching staff and the SENCO.
- Helping create a safe, engaging and inclusive learning environment.
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who:
- Has experience supporting children with SEND in a school, nursery or similar setting.
- Is calm, patient and able to build positive relationships with pupils.
- Has excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Can adapt their approach to meet individual learning and behavioural needs.
- Has a genuine passion for inclusive education.
- Holds an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or is willing to obtain one.
Experience with PECS, Makaton, Team Teach, sensory strategies or intervention programmes would be advantageous but is not essential.
