School Caretaker – Burgess Hill
Full-Time | Permanent Position
Engage Education is currently recruiting for a School Caretaker to join a friendly and well-established school in Burgess Hill. This is an excellent opportunity for a practical, reliable, and proactive individual who takes pride in maintaining a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors.
Working as part of the site’s facilities team, you will play a key role in the day-to-day operation of the school, ensuring the premises are well-maintained and fully operational throughout the year. The role will primarily be based at the Burgess Hill site, with occasional travel to other local schools within the organisation.
About the role:
- Opening and securing school buildings and grounds
- Carrying out routine maintenance and minor repair work
- Conducting regular health and safety inspections around the site
- Assisting with site security and reporting maintenance concerns
- Supporting contractors and external visitors whilst on site
- Setting up rooms and facilities for meetings, events, and examinations
- Monitoring school grounds to ensure they remain safe and presentable
- Assisting with deliveries and the movement of furniture and equipment
- Supporting other school sites when operationally required
Working pattern:
- Full-time position
- Split shifts are required when working at the Burgess Hill base school
- Standard shifts are generally worked when supporting other school locations
- Travel between sites may be required from time to time
- Mileage expenses can be claimed when travelling from the Burgess Hill base site to other school locations
About you:
- Previous experience in caretaking, facilities, maintenance, or a similar role
- Practical DIY and general repair skills
- Good understanding of health and safety responsibilities
- Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work independently
- Flexible approach to working across multiple sites when required
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to prioritise tasks and respond to issues efficiently
- Full UK driving licence is desirable
