We are working in partnership with an ambitious secondary academy in Bradford to recruit a dedicated Pastoral Support Officer to join their pastoral team from September on a full-time basis. This is an exciting opportunity to make a lasting impact by supporting students’ wellbeing, attendance, behaviour, and personal development within a caring and inclusive school community.

The Role: Pastoral Support Officer

As a Pastoral Support Officer, you will play a vital role in ensuring students feel safe, supported, and ready to learn. Working closely with pastoral leaders, teaching staff, families, and external agencies, you’ll provide targeted interventions and guidance to help students overcome challenges and reach their full potential.

Your Key Responsibilities

• Student Support: Build positive relationships with students, providing pastoral guidance and emotional support to promote wellbeing and resilience.
• Behaviour Management: Promote positive behaviour through restorative approaches, conflict resolution, and consistent pastoral support.
• Attendance & Engagement: Monitor attendance and punctuality, working proactively with students and families to improve engagement with school.
• Safeguarding: Support the school’s safeguarding culture by identifying concerns and working closely with the safeguarding team to ensure students remain safe.
• Pastoral Interventions: Deliver targeted interventions for students experiencing social, emotional, behavioural, or attendance challenges.
• Family Liaison: Develop strong relationships with parents and carers, ensuring effective communication and collaborative support for students.
• Multi-Agency Working: Work alongside external agencies and support services to provide coordinated support where required.
• Student Wellbeing: Encourage positive mental health, confidence, resilience, and personal development through mentoring and pastoral initiatives.
• School Culture: Help foster a calm, respectful, and inclusive environment where every student feels valued and able to succeed.

• A genuine passion for supporting young people and helping them achieve their potential.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with students, parents, colleagues, and external professionals.
• Empathy, resilience, patience, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
• Confidence in managing challenging behaviour using positive and restorative approaches.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.
• Experience working with young people in a school, youth work, safeguarding, pastoral, or similar setting.
• A good understanding of safeguarding procedures, attendance, behaviour, and student wellbeing.
• The ability to motivate, inspire, and build trust with students from a wide range of backgrounds.
• Relevant qualifications in education, youth work, safeguarding, counselling, or pastoral care are desirable but not essential.
