Engage Education are working in partnership with a well-respected Alternative Provision in West Sussex to recruit a dedicated Pastoral Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA). This is an exciting opportunity to join a supportive, multi-disciplinary team committed to helping pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, SEND, and those at risk of exclusion re-engage with education.

Your Role
As a Pastoral HLTA, you will:

- Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils to promote engagement, resilience and self-regulation.
- Support pupils with SEMH, SEND and those facing barriers to learning using trauma-informed and restorative approaches.
- Manage challenging behaviour calmly and confidently, using effective de-escalation techniques.
- Support reintegration programmes for pupils returning to mainstream or alternative educational settings.
- Assist in developing and reviewing Individual Education Plans (IEPs), Pastoral Support Plans, Behaviour Support Plans and Risk Assessments.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral staff, SEND teams and external professionals to provide the best outcomes for pupils.
- Monitor, record and report on pupil progress, attendance and behaviour using school systems.
- Promote safeguarding, inclusion, wellbeing and positive behaviour throughout the school.
- Be available full-time during school hours.

The successful candidate will have:
- Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, SEND or challenging behaviour.

- Excellent communication, organisation and record-keeping skills.
