Nursery Teacher – Barnet

About the Role

We are seeking a warm, creative, and dedicated Nursery Teacher to join the specialist Early Years team at a lovely SEN School in Barnet. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), supporting them to achieve their full potential in a nurturing, inclusive, and highly supportive environment.

The successful candidate will deliver high-quality, play-based learning in line with the EYFS framework, adapting provision to meet individual needs and creating engaging learning experiences that promote communication, independence, social development, and early learning skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging and differentiated learning opportunities tailored to the individual needs of children with SEND.
  • Create a safe, nurturing, and stimulating learning environment where every child feels valued and supported.
  • Support the development of communication and language skills, including the use of visual supports, alternative communication methods, and sensory-based approaches where appropriate.
  • Promote children’s social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development through structured play and personalised learning experiences.
  • Observe, assess, and track children’s progress, maintaining accurate records and contributing to individual learning plans and EHCP outcomes where applicable.
  • Work closely with parents, carers, therapists, and other professionals to ensure a holistic approach to each child’s development.
  • Support positive behaviour and emotional regulation through consistent, child-centred strategies.
  • Contribute to the wider life of the school and collaborate effectively with colleagues across the multidisciplinary team.

Person Specification

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent Early Years teaching qualification – essential.
  • Strong knowledge of the EYFS curriculum and child development.
  • Experience working with nursery-aged children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including autism, speech and language needs, and developmental delays, is highly desirable.
  • Understanding of inclusive teaching practices and strategies to support diverse learning needs.
  • Excellent communication, organisation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with families and external professionals.
  • A patient, nurturing, enthusiastic, and creative approach to teaching and learning.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
