We are currently recruiting for a passionate and resilient Maths Teacher to join a specialist Alternative Provision setting in Halifax to start as soon as possible on a full-time, temp-to-perm basis.
This unique provision supports predominantly Upper KS3 and KS4 students with complex needs, many of whom may have EHCPs, be Looked After Children (LAC), or require specialist Post-16 pathways. The setting provides a highly supportive and nurturing environment where students are encouraged to re-engage with education through personalised learning, strong relationships, and a curriculum tailored to their individual interests and future aspirations.
About the Role
As a Maths Teacher, you will deliver engaging and differentiated Maths lessons to students working towards GCSE and Functional Skills qualifications. You will play a key role in helping pupils develop confidence in numeracy, problem-solving, and logical thinking, while supporting their personal development and readiness for adulthood.
You will work closely with Learning Mentors, pastoral teams, therapy team and wider staff to remove barriers to learning and create positive educational experiences for young people who may have previously struggled within mainstream settings.

The school also places a strong emphasis on personal development, careers education, cultural capital, and preparation for adulthood through enrichment activities and experiential learning opportunities.
Every student is supported by a dedicated Learning Mentor who works closely with both school and home to provide tailored support and improve engagement, attendance, and outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Delivering high-quality Maths lessons across KS3 and KS4
- Teaching GCSE Maths and Functional Skills Maths up to Level 2
- Planning and adapting lessons to meet a wide range of learning needs and abilities
- Building positive relationships with students who may have SEMH needs or disrupted educational experiences
- Supporting students’ confidence, numeracy skills, and engagement with learning
- Working collaboratively with Learning Mentors, pastoral teams, and senior leaders
- Monitoring progress and providing clear feedback to students and families
- Promoting a safe, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS) or relevant teaching qualification
- Experience teaching Maths at KS3 and KS4 level
- A strong understanding of SEMH needs and trauma-informed practice
- Confidence managing challenging behaviour using calm, consistent approaches
- A nurturing yet firm approach with high expectations for all learners
- Excellent relationship-building and communication skills
- Passion for supporting vulnerable young people to achieve positive outcomes
Ideal Backgrounds Include:
- Alternative Provision or PRU experience
- SEMH schools or specialist settings
- Mainstream teachers with strong behaviour management experience
- Experience supporting vulnerable or disengaged learners
