Engage Education is working with a welcoming and ambitious secondary school in Portsmouth to recruit a Cover Supervisor. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to gain classroom experience, develop their behaviour management skills, or take the first step towards a career in teaching.

The successful candidate will supervise lessons in the absence of teaching staff, ensuring students remain engaged with their learning and that classrooms continue to run smoothly throughout the school day.

About the role:

• Supervising classes across a range of subjects in the absence of teachers
• Delivering pre-prepared lesson materials and instructions
• Managing classroom behaviour in line with school policies
• Ensuring students remain focused and engaged with their work
• Supporting students with tasks and answering general questions
• Recording attendance and reporting any issues to relevant staff
• Maintaining a positive and productive learning environment
• Building strong relationships with students and colleagues

About you:

• Experience working with children or young people is desirable
• Confident leading and managing groups of students
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Calm, professional, and resilient approach
• Ability to work independently and adapt to different classroom environments
• Good organisational skills and attention to detail
• Ideal for graduates, aspiring teachers, sports coaches, youth workers, or experienced school support staff
