School Caretaker – Brighton
Full-Time | September 2026 Start
Engage Education is working with a welcoming school in Brighton to recruit a reliable and proactive School Caretaker for a full-time position starting in September 2026.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced caretaker, facilities assistant, or practical individual who takes pride in maintaining a safe, secure, and well-presented school environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the day-to-day running of the school site.
About the role:
- Carrying out general maintenance, repairs, and upkeep of the school buildings and grounds
- Ensuring the school site is safe, secure, and ready for staff and pupils each day
- Opening and closing the premises, including carrying out security checks
- Supporting health and safety procedures and reporting any concerns
- Monitoring contractors and assisting with site-related works
- Maintaining outdoor areas, facilities, and equipment
- Completing basic repairs and maintenance tasks where required
- Supporting room setups for meetings, events, and school activities
- Managing deliveries, moving furniture, and assisting with general site requirements
- Ensuring compliance with safeguarding, security, and premises procedures
About you:
- Previous experience in caretaking, maintenance, facilities, or a similar practical role
- Confident carrying out general repairs and basic maintenance tasks
- Good understanding of health and safety procedures
- Reliable, organised, and able to manage a varied workload
- Comfortable working independently and using initiative
- Strong attention to detail and pride in maintaining high standards
- Good communication skills when working with staff, visitors, and contractors
- Flexible and proactive approach to supporting the school environment
- Full UK driving licence is desirable
