Be the Positive Role Model That Changes a Young Person’s Future

Are you someone who can build trust, remain calm under pressure, and motivate young people to achieve their potential?

We are working with a specialist Alternative Provision in Leeds to recruit a dedicated Behaviour & Learning Mentor to support students who require additional guidance, structure and encouragement to succeed in education.

This is a highly rewarding role for someone who thrives on building positive relationships and supporting young people who may have experienced significant barriers to learning.

Many of the learners have SEND, SEMH needs, behavioural challenges, emotionally based school avoidance, or have become disengaged from mainstream education. We are looking for a resilient, consistent and compassionate individual who can help students develop confidence, improve behaviour and re-engage with learning.

The Role

As a Behaviour & Learning Mentor, you will work closely with students both inside and outside the classroom, providing support, guidance and positive challenge.

You will play a key role in helping learners regulate emotions, develop coping strategies, improve attendance and engagement, and achieve positive outcomes.

This is not a traditional classroom support role. We are looking for someone who can build strong relationships, provide stability, and become a trusted adult in a young person’s educational journey.

Key Responsibilities

Build positive and professional relationships with students.

Support learners with SEMH, SEND and behavioural needs.

Deliver targeted interventions and mentoring sessions.

Promote positive behaviour and engagement in learning.

Support students during periods of dysregulation and emotional distress.

Work alongside teachers to create a calm and purposeful learning environment.

Encourage attendance, participation and personal development.

Act as a positive role model and mentor.

Work collaboratively with parents, carers and external agencies.

Maintain accurate records of interventions and student progress.

Contribute to safeguarding and student wellbeing at all times.

βœ” Experience working with young people in education, youth work, coaching, mentoring, care or support settings

βœ” Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

βœ” Training in Team Teach, MAPA, restorative practice or similar approaches

βœ” Understanding of trauma-informed practice

βœ” Experience supporting learners with EHCPs

Why Apply?

Opportunity to genuinely change the trajectory of young people’s lives.

Work as part of a supportive and committed team.

Small setting where relationships matter.

Ongoing training and professional development.

No two days are the same.

Rewarding role with visible impact on learners’ progress and wellbeing.

About the Setting

This specialist Alternative Provision supports young people who have struggled to access mainstream education due to social, emotional, behavioural and additional learning needs.

The school prides itself on creating a nurturing environment where strong relationships, high expectations and personalised support enable learners to re-engage with education and build positive futures.
