Engage Education is recruiting Academic Mentors to work in a high-performing secondary school in Tower Hamlets from September 2026. This is an excellent opportunity for aspiring teachers, graduates, and experienced education professionals looking to gain valuable classroom experience while making a real difference to students’ academic progress.
You will work with students across Key Stages 3, 4, and, where appropriate, Key Stage 5, providing targeted intervention and support to help them achieve their full potential.
The Role
As an Academic Mentor, you will:
- Deliver 1:1 and small group intervention sessions to students requiring additional academic support.
- Support classroom teachers by reinforcing learning and helping students access the curriculum.
- Assist students in preparing for GCSE and A-Level examinations.
- Identify learning gaps and implement targeted strategies to improve attainment.
- Monitor student progress and provide regular feedback to teaching staff.
- Build students’ confidence, resilience, and independent learning skills.
- Encourage high standards of attendance, behaviour, and academic achievement.
We’re Looking For
- A degree in any subject (graduates in English, Maths, Science, Humanities, Languages, Business, Economics, Psychology, or related subjects are particularly encouraged to apply).
- A strong academic background and enthusiasm for education.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to motivate and inspire young people.
- Previous tutoring, mentoring, coaching, youth work, or school-based experience is desirable but not essential.
- A proactive, organised, and professional approach.
- An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
