Pay: £95.00 – £100.00 per day (dependent on experience)

Contract: Full-Time, Long-Term

Start Date: Immediate Start

Are you a versatile, proactive Teaching Assistant who thrives on supporting general classroom learning while making a difference for pupils with extra learning needs?

Engage Education is recruiting a General Teaching Assistant with additional Special Educational Needs (SEN) responsibilities to join a close-knit, 1-form entry primary school in Oldham, proudly supported by a well-resourced Multi-Academy Trust (MAT).

About the Role

This is a balanced and rewarding role across the primary phase. You will spend part of your day supporting the class teacher with general classroom delivery, resource preparation, and guided group activities in Literacy and Numeracy. Alongside general TA duties, you will provide targeted 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEN (such as Autism, speech and language delays, or mild learning difficulties)—helping them access the curriculum, build independence, and stay engaged with their learning.

Why this role stands out

  • Best of Both Worlds: Enjoy the warm, community feel of a 1-form entry school paired with the extensive training, resources, and career progression of a large MAT.
  • Varied Daily Routine: Combine general whole-class support with meaningful 1:1 and small group SEN interventions.
  • Immediate Start: Secure a stable, full-time term-time role straight away.
  • Strong SEN Infrastructure: Work alongside experienced class teachers, a dedicated SENCo, and trust-wide SEN specialists.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assisting the class teacher with general classroom management, learning setup, and small group tasks.
  • Delivering tailored 1:1 and small group interventions for pupils with EHCPs or additional learning needs.
  • Adapting learning materials, using visual aids, and supporting speech & language targets.
  • Encouraging pupil independence, self-confidence, and social communication skills.
  • Working closely with the SENCo and class teacher to track progress against learning goals and Individual Education Plans (IEPs).

Who We’re Looking For

  • Experience: Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant in a primary school, with experience supporting pupils with SEN.
  • Versatility: Able to balance general classroom duties with focused SEN support effortlessly.
  • Mindset: Patient, nurturing, reliable, and passionate about inclusive education.
  • Skills (Desirable): Familiarity with visual timetables, Makaton, PECS, or speech and language strategies is a bonus.

Requirements

  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for an immediate check).
  • Full eligibility to work in the UK with professional references covering the last two years.
  • Available for an immediate, full-time start.
