Engage Education is seeking a passionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join the expert team within the resourced SEN provision at Benchill Primary School in Wythenshawe. Rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted, this inclusive mainstream primary school is praised for its dedicated SEN unit, which enables pupils with complex needs to benefit from specialist support while remaining an active part of the wider mainstream school community.
About the Role
Working directly within the school’s specialist resourced provision, you will support primary-aged pupils with high-level additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), speech and language difficulties, and severe learning difficulties (SLD). You will facilitate targeted learning within the unit and support pupils during planned inclusion opportunities within mainstream classrooms, sports activities, and school-wide events.

Key Responsibilities
- Providing tailored 1:1 and small-group support to children within the resourced SEN unit.
- Assisting pupils during integrated mainstream classroom sessions, assemblies, and breaktimes to foster social inclusion.
- Utilizing non-verbal communication tools, such as PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System), Makaton, and visual timetables.
- Supporting sensory regulation routines, movement breaks, and proactive de-escalation strategies.
- Tracking individual progress against Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
Who We’re Looking For
- Experience: Proven experience supporting primary-aged children with complex SEN (ASC, SLD, or SEMH) in a school, SEN unit, or specialist setting.
- Communication Skills: Experience using PECS, Makaton, or visual aids to support communication and learning.
- Mindset: Patient, resilient, compassionate, and passionate about promoting inclusion within a mainstream environment.
- Training (Desirable): Team-Teach, Moving & Handling, or accredited Autism/SEND training is an advantage.
Requirements
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one).
- Full eligibility to work in the UK with professional references covering the last two years.
