About the Role

Engage Education are delighted to be working in partnership with a primary school in Leeds who are looking for a dedicated and compassionate Complex Needs Teaching Assistant to join their specialist resourced provision.

The provision supports children with a range of additional needs, including Autism, Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) and other complex learning needs.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting children with additional needs and wants to make a genuine difference to their educational and personal development.

You will work closely with experienced teaching and support staff to provide pupils with the individualised support, structure and encouragement they need to access learning and develop their communication, independence and social skills.

Your Responsibilities

As a Complex Needs Teaching Assistant, you will:

• Provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils within the resourced provision.
• Support children with Autism, SLCN and a range of complex additional needs.
• Help pupils to access learning by adapting activities and using appropriate communication and support strategies.
• Support pupils with developing their communication, social interaction and independence skills.
• Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils and provide consistent emotional support.
• Use a range of strategies to promote positive behaviour and engagement.
• Work closely with teachers, SENCOs and other professionals to support individual pupil needs.
• Follow individual support plans and contribute to pupils’ ongoing development.
• Support pupils during classroom activities, break times and other aspects of the school day.
• Help create a calm, structured and inclusive environment where every pupil can feel safe and supported.

What We’re Looking For

The school is looking for someone who:

• Has experience working with children or young people with complex additional needs.
• Ideally has experience supporting children with Autism and/or Speech, Language and Communication Needs.
• Has a good understanding of different communication and behaviour support strategies.
• Is patient, calm and resilient when supporting pupils with challenging or complex needs.
• Can build strong and positive relationships with children.
• Is confident adapting their approach to meet individual needs.
• Is able to work effectively as part of a wider team.
• Is passionate about helping children develop their confidence, independence and communication skills.
• Can commit to a full-time, long-term position.

Experience within a special school, resourced provision, mainstream SEN setting, nursery, care environment or similar would be highly beneficial.
