About the Role

Engage Education are delighted to be working in partnership with a primary school in Leeds who are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic Autism Support Teaching Assistant to join their team.

This is an exciting opportunity to work closely with pupils with Autism and a range of additional needs, providing individualised support and helping them to engage positively with their learning and school environment.

The role will initially be offered on a long-term temporary basis, with the potential for a permanent position for the right candidate following a successful period.

Your Responsibilities

As an Autism Support Teaching Assistant, you will:

• Provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with a range of additional needs.
• Support pupils with Autism/ASC, complex communication needs, SEMH, ADHD, severe learning difficulties and other learning disabilities.
• Work closely with teachers and other support staff to ensure pupils are engaged and supported throughout the school day.
• Use a range of strategies to encourage positive behaviour, communication and engagement.
• Adapt activities and approaches to meet individual pupils’ needs.
• Provide regular feedback to teachers and, where appropriate, parents/carers.
• Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils, helping them to develop confidence and independence.

What We’re Looking For

The school is looking for someone who:

• Has experience supporting children or young people with SEN and/or Autism.
• Has a good understanding of behaviour management strategies.
• Is confident supporting pupils with a range of complex needs.
• Can engage pupils in learning using different approaches and activities.
• Is patient, resilient and compassionate.
• Can build strong, positive relationships with pupils and staff.
• Is committed to a long-term position and would be interested in the potential for a permanent role.

Experience within a school, specialist setting, care environment or similar support role would be beneficial.
