About Lewes

Lewes is a beautiful historic town steeped in culture which is situated in the middle of the South Downs National Park. With a population of under 20,000 Lewes is just 15 minutes on the train to Brighton and an hour from London. 

Lewes is home to several significant historic buildings such as Lewes Castle and the Anne of Cleves house as well as Harvey’s Brewery. Every year on the 5th November Lewes hosts what is said to be the biggest Bonfire Night celebration in the UK. It was here that Simon de Montfort fought the Battle of Lewes against the King and where Tom Paine, author of ‘The Rights of Man’ once lived.

Lewes is a great place to shop with so many independent, antique and quirky shops there is also plenty of historic pubs to choose from too.
