Engage Education is currently recruiting for an enthusiastic and dedicated Nursery Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Leeds. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who has previous experience working within a primary school nursery setting and is passionate about supporting children during those important early stages of their education.

You will play an important role in creating a safe, stimulating and nurturing environment where children feel confident, supported and excited to learn.

The Role

As a Nursery Teaching Assistant, your responsibilities will include:

• Supporting children within the primary school nursery, helping them develop key early learning skills through structured activities and play-based learning.

• Supporting the delivery of the EYFS curriculum, encouraging children’s communication, language, physical, social and emotional development.

• Working with children on early phonics, letter recognition, sounds and pre-reading skills.

• Supporting early maths and literacy activities, helping children build confidence with the foundations of learning.

• Assisting with personal care routines, including nappy changing, toileting and promoting good hygiene.

• Encouraging independence, positive behaviour and social interaction.

• Creating engaging learning opportunities through play, creativity and exploration.

• Working closely with the class teacher and wider EYFS team to ensure every child receives the support they need.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who:

• Has previous experience working within a nursery class in a primary school – this is essential.

• Has practical experience supporting phonics and early literacy development.

• Is confident and comfortable with nappy changing and personal care routines.

• Has a genuine passion for Early Years and understands the importance of early childhood development.

• Is enthusiastic, patient, caring and able to build positive relationships with young children.

• Can use their initiative and contribute positively to a busy nursery environment.

• Is reliable, proactive and committed to supporting children’s learning and development.
