About the Role

At Engage Education, we specialise in recruiting education professionals and understand how important it is to find the right role and school for you.

We are currently recruiting a 1:1 EYFS Special Needs Teaching Assistant to work within a welcoming primary school in Leeds, supporting a young child with additional needs in their Early Years setting.

This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about early childhood development and has experience supporting children with special educational needs. You will provide dedicated 1:1 support, helping the child access the EYFS curriculum, develop their communication and social skills, and build confidence and independence.

The Role – EYFS 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing dedicated 1:1 support to a child within an EYFS classroom.

  • Supporting the child to access learning activities, play-based learning and the wider curriculum.

  • Encouraging communication, interaction and social development.

  • Supporting emotional regulation and managing any challenging behaviours.

  • Adapting activities to suit the child’s individual learning needs and developmental stage.

  • Encouraging independence with everyday routines and transitions.

  • Working closely with the class teacher and SENCO to implement individual support strategies.

  • Creating a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment where the child feels supported.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Previous experience working with children with additional needs, ideally within an EYFS or nursery setting.

  • An understanding of early childhood development and the EYFS framework.

  • Experience supporting children with Autism, speech and language difficulties, communication needs or developmental delays.

  • A patient, nurturing and adaptable approach.

  • Confidence providing dedicated 1:1 support.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with children.

  • A genuine passion for helping young children develop and reach their potential.

Experience within a nursery, primary school or specialist SEND setting would be particularly advantageous.
