We are currently recruiting a Primary Teaching Assistant to work within a welcoming primary school in Leeds, supporting primary-aged pupils with a range of special educational needs and disabilities on a 1:1 basis.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about helping children overcome barriers to learning and develop their confidence, communication and independence.

You will provide dedicated 1:1 support to pupils throughout the school day, helping them access the primary curriculum, engage in classroom activities and feel included in their learning environment.

The Role – Primary Teaching Assistant – 1:1 SEN

Your responsibilities will include:

• Providing dedicated 1:1 support to primary-aged pupils with additional needs.

• Supporting children to access classroom learning and participate in the wider school curriculum.

• Adapting activities and learning resources to meet individual needs and abilities.

• Supporting pupils with Autism, ADHD, SEMH, speech and language difficulties and learning disabilities.

• Encouraging communication, social interaction and positive relationships with peers.

• Supporting emotional regulation and implementing appropriate behaviour management strategies.

• Helping children develop their confidence, independence and everyday life skills.

• Delivering targeted learning activities and interventions under the guidance of the class teacher.

• Working closely with teachers and the SENCO to follow individual support plans and monitor progress.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who has:

• Previous experience supporting children with special educational needs, ideally within a primary school.

• Experience working with primary-aged children across EYFS, KS1 or KS2.

• An understanding of different additional needs, including Autism, ADHD, SEMH, communication difficulties and learning disabilities.

• Confidence providing dedicated 1:1 support.

• A patient, nurturing and adaptable approach.

• The ability to build positive, trusting relationships with children.

• Confidence supporting children who may display challenging behaviours or struggle with emotional regulation.

• A genuine passion for helping children develop and reach their full potential.

Experience within a mainstream primary school, nursery or specialist SEND setting would be particularly advantageous.
