Psychology Graduate – Learning Support Assistant
£92.56 - £95 SEND Full time
Are you a Psychology Graduate looking to gain practical experience supporting children and young people with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs? Do you have a passion for understanding behaviour and helping pupils overcome barriers to learning?
Engage Education is working with a specialist school in LS9 looking to recruit a dedicated Learning Support Assistant (LSA). This is an excellent opportunity for a Psychology Graduate who is considering a future career in educational psychology, counselling, mental health support or teaching.
You will work alongside experienced teaching staff to support pupils who may experience difficulties with emotional regulation, behaviour, social interaction and engagement in education. Your understanding of psychology could help you develop positive relationships with pupils and contribute towards a supportive learning environment.
What will you be doing?
- Emotional and Behavioural Support: Help pupils manage their emotions, develop coping strategies and engage positively with learning.
- Building Relationships: Establish trusting relationships with students, providing consistent encouragement and reassurance.
- Promoting Positive Behaviour: Support staff in implementing individual behaviour strategies and maintaining clear, consistent boundaries.
- Encouraging Engagement: Help pupils participate in classroom activities, develop confidence and build positive relationships with their peers.
- Supporting Individual Progress: Work on a one-to-one basis and in small groups, adapting your approach to suit each pupil’s needs.
What are we looking for?
- A degree in Psychology or a related subject.
- An interest in SEMH, child development and behaviour.
- A patient, empathetic and resilient approach.
- The confidence to remain calm and professional in challenging situations.
- Strong communication skills and a genuine desire to help young people succeed.
Previous experience in education, youth work, mental health or care would be beneficial, although a willingness to learn and develop is equally important.
