At Engage, we know that a school runs on quality support staff. We’re currently working with an Outstanding specialist school in Cambridge to recruit a dedicated Secondary Teaching Assistant to join their team on a full-time basis.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting young people with autism and additional needs, helping students to develop academically, socially and personally within a specialist setting.
About the role:
- Provide one-to-one and small group support to secondary-aged students, helping them access learning and reach their full potential.
- Support students with autism and a range of additional learning needs, adapting your approach to meet individual needs.
- Work closely with teachers and specialist staff to create a calm, inclusive and engaging learning environment.
- Support students across the secondary curriculum, helping them develop academically while building confidence and independence.
- Build positive, trusting relationships with students, taking the time to understand their individual strengths, needs and interests.
- Support students with their social, emotional and behavioural development, helping them develop positive strategies and coping mechanisms.
- Encourage students to develop independence, resilience and confidence both inside and outside the classroom.
- Help maintain a structured, calm and consistent environment, recognising the importance of routine and familiarity for autistic learners.
- Assist with the preparation and adaptation of learning resources and activities to meet individual needs.
- Support students in developing their communication, social and life skills alongside their academic learning.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral staff and other professionals to ensure students receive consistent and personalised support.
- Promote safeguarding, inclusion and student wellbeing at all times.
- Support students during activities, break times, trips and other aspects of the school day where required.
