Are you an experienced SEN Support Worker, Behaviour Mentor or Youth Worker looking for a role where you can make a real difference to young people who are currently disengaged from education?

Engage Education is currently recruiting for an experienced Outreach Support Worker to work with young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs across Oldham.

This is a unique opportunity for someone who is confident working independently, building relationships and engaging young people who may be reluctant to access traditional education.

The Role

You will be supporting young people who are currently absent or disengaged from school, helping them to re-engage with education and develop positive routines and relationships.

Rather than being based solely within a school environment, you will meet young people in the community and other agreed locations, providing one-to-one support and tailored interventions designed around their individual needs.

You will need to be confident working outside of a traditional school setting and comfortable travelling to meet young people across Oldham and the surrounding area.

The role will involve:

• Building positive, trusting relationships with young people with SEMH and additional needs
• Meeting pupils in community and other appropriate settings
• Supporting young people who are currently absent or disengaged from education
• Encouraging pupils to re-engage with learning and develop positive routines
• Delivering one-to-one support and bespoke interventions
• Supporting emotional regulation, confidence and social development
• Helping young people overcome barriers to education and personal development
• Working closely with the wider education and support team
• Maintaining appropriate professional boundaries and safeguarding at all times
• Using your initiative when working independently
• Feeding back on progress, engagement and any concerns

We are looking for:

• Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN/SEMH
• Experience supporting young people with challenging behaviour or complex needs
• A calm, patient and resilient approach
• Excellent relationship-building and communication skills
• Confidence working independently and using your own initiative
• The ability to engage young people who may be reluctant to access education
• A genuine passion for helping young people overcome barriers and achieve positive outcomes
• A full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle – essential

Desirable but not essential:

• Experience working within an SEMH, alternative provision, specialist school or youth support setting
• Experience working with young people who are persistently absent or disengaged from education
• Team Teach or other positive behaviour management training
• A DBS registered on the Update Service for the Child and Adult Workforce
• Experience delivering outreach, mentoring or community-based support
