Engage Education is recruiting a Pastoral Support Mentor for a secondary school in Ashford, Surrey, starting in September 2026.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a dedicated pastoral team, supporting students who require additional guidance with behaviour, attendance, wellbeing, and engagement. The successful candidate will be a positive role model with the confidence to build strong relationships while maintaining high expectations.
The Role
As a Pastoral Support Mentor, you will:
- Support students who require additional pastoral, behavioural, or emotional support throughout the school day.
- Work one-to-one and in small groups with students to improve behaviour, attendance, punctuality, and engagement.
- Build positive relationships that encourage students to make positive choices and take responsibility for their learning.
- Support the school’s behaviour systems by helping students regulate their emotions and return successfully to lessons.
- Liaise with teachers, pastoral leaders, parents, and external agencies where appropriate.
- Promote a positive, safe, and inclusive school culture for all students.
The Ideal Candidate
We’re looking for someone who:
- Has experience working with young people in education, mentoring, youth work, coaching, or a similar role.
- Has excellent behaviour management and can confidently de-escalate challenging situations.
- Is calm, resilient, and able to remain professional under pressure.
- Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Is passionate about supporting students to achieve both academically and personally.
- Can act as a positive role model and build trust with young people from a range of backgrounds.
