Job Title: Teaching Assistant (Deaf Education)
Location: Wandsworth, London
About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join our supportive team at a specialist Deaf school in Wandsworth. This is a rewarding opportunity to work closely with Deaf students, supporting their learning, communication, and overall development in a fully inclusive and language-rich environment.
The successful candidate will play a key role in assisting teachers in delivering engaging lessons, supporting students both in and out of the classroom, and helping to create a positive and accessible learning experience for all pupils.
Key Responsibilities
- Support Deaf students in accessing the curriculum through British Sign Language (BSL)
- Work collaboratively with teachers to deliver tailored learning activities
- Provide one-to-one and small group support as required
- Assist with classroom management and preparation of resources
- Encourage student independence, confidence, and social development
- Support students’ communication needs using BSL and other appropriate strategies
Essential Requirements
- BSL Level 3 qualification (minimum requirement)
- Experience working with children or young people (educational setting preferred)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- A genuine passion for supporting Deaf learners
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Previous experience in a Deaf education setting
- Understanding of Deaf culture and bilingual approaches (BSL/English)
- Additional training in special educational needs (SEN)
