Graduate Cover Supervisor – Greenwich Secondary School
Location: Greenwich
Type: Full Time, Part Time, Flexible
Working Hours: 08:30 am – 16:00 pm.
Salary: £100 – £120 per day
At Engage, we’re working with secondary schools in Woolwich to recruit Graduate Cover Supervisors to support on a supply basis, covering planned and unplanned staff absence. This is an excellent opportunity for graduates looking to gain valuable classroom experience before pursuing a career in teaching or education. You can set your own availability each week, so we welcome applications from those available part-time or full-time.
About the role
As a Graduate Cover Supervisor, you will be responsible for delivering pre-planned lessons across a range of subjects while the class teacher is absent. This role is ideal for graduates who are confident, adaptable, and enjoy working with young people.
- Covering lessons across the school for teacher absence, PPA time, or general sickness
- No previous Cover Supervisor experience is required, but applicants must hold a degree if not
- Experience working with young people is essential. We welcome applicants from backgrounds such as youth work, sports coaching, mentoring, tutoring, support work, or similar roles
- Behaviour can be challenging at times, so you’ll need to be personable, resilient, and able to adapt quickly to different classroom environments
Your Role as a Graduate Cover Supervisor
As a Graduate Cover Supervisor, you’ll supervise pupils as they complete pre-planned work when teaching staff are absent (for example due to sickness, training, or parental leave). Your main responsibility will be managing the classroom, maintaining a positive learning environment, and ensuring students remain engaged with their learning.
- Supervising students and ensuring they complete the work set
- Managing classroom behaviour effectively
- Assisting pupils when they have questions about the lesson
- Following the school’s behaviour and safeguarding policies
- Collecting completed work and returning it to the relevant department
- Providing feedback on the lesson and student engagement to teaching staff
